Mancala is a generic name for a family of two-player turn-based strategy board games played with small stones, beans, or seeds and rows of holes or pits in the earth, a board or other playing surface. The objective is usually to capture all or some set of the opponent’s pieces. Versions of the game date back to the 7th century and evidence suggests the game existed in ancient Egypt. It is among the oldest known games to still be widely played today. (Source: Wikipedia).
I love board games in many forms, but strategy games have to top the list. Games where the rules are simple and it becomes you versus an opponent (or opponents) and all that remains is to out think them have a special place in my heart. Mancala sits in that category for sure. Pictured is a Padauk Mancala Board I finished recently for a client. It is larger than a traditional board with overall dimensions of 19.5″x7.5″ at 13/16″ thick, and beyond being a functional board, it also looks great sitting on a coffee table. Similar to the Chess Boards, I don’t think I will be maintaining a stock of these items, as sizing and colour/wood choice can be very personal decisions. If you enjoy the game and would like something like this to add a bit of flair to your play contact me and we can start designing.
**I didn’t have enough stones to properly fill the board in the picture 😔
